Od 22. do 24. lipnja 2026. Gibellina — talijanska Prijestolnica suvremene umjetnosti 2026.
Susret je još jednom potvrdio snagu mediteranske mreže Deskova Kreativne Europe i važnost zajedničkog rada i sinergije kulturnih i audiovizualnih sektora mediteranske regije.

From 22 to 24 June 2026, Gibellina — Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2026 — and the archaeological park of Selinunte in Sicily hosted the second meeting of the Mediterranean Creative Europe Desks, bringing together representatives of Ministries of Culture from more than ten countries and the European Union.
The meeting was organised by Creative Europe Desk Italy in collaboration with the Desks of Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Malta, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain and Tunisia, offering an occasion to explore the opportunities that European programmes — Creative Europe, Horizon Europe Cluster 2, Interreg and the New European Bauhaus — open up for the cultural and creative sectors, with a particular focus on the Mediterranean area and on strengthening cooperation between countries. The programme brought together both the Culture and MEDIA strands, and Creative Europe MEDIA Desk Croatia took part as a member of the Mediterranean network of Desks.
The second day of the meeting, held in Selinunte, was dedicated to the Cross-sectoral and MEDIA strands of the programme, and a special place in the programme went to the Croatian-Italian-Slovenian co-production Fiume o morte! by director Igor Bezinović produced as a co-production of the companies Restart (Croatia), Videomante (Italy) and Kino Nosorogi (Slovenia). The Content Cluster panel featured Erica Barbiani of the production company Videomante, one of the film’s co-producers, who presented the journey of this remarkable project developed with the support of the Creative Europe MEDIA for development.
Fiume o morte! is a documentary-fiction hybrid that, through reenactments and the participation of more than 300 citizens of Rijeka, tells the story of the sixteen-month occupation of the city led in 1919 by the poet Gabriele D’Annunzio. The film has gathered an exceptional international run of recognition: it world-premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, where it won the main Tiger Award and the FIPRESCI prize, and at the Pula Film Festival it took home six Golden Arenas, including Best Director. At the 38th European Film Awards in Berlin, on 18 January 2026, the film was named Best European Documentary — voted by the members of the European Film Academy among five nominated titles. It was also nominated for Best European Film, and later won the inaugural FIPRESCI Documentary Grand Prix and was Croatia’s official submission for the Academy Awards.
The presence of Fiume o morte! at the Selinunte meeting was a powerful testament to how support from the Creative Europe MEDIA at the development stage can open doors for projects that go on to achieve outstanding international visibility and resonance.
The meeting once again confirmed the strength of the Mediterranean network of Creative Europe Desks and the importance of working together and the synergy of the cultural and audiovisual sectors of the Mediterranean region.
