Još sam ovdje, r. Walter Salles (Brazil, Francuska)

RIJEKA – ART-KINO – 4 December 2025 (“I’m Still Here”) at 20:00
As part of the programme, Art-kino will present a special free screening of the Oscar-winning Brazilian film “I’m Still Here” by Walter Salles on 4 December at 20:00. The screening will be followed by a discussion featuring political scientist and film critic Boško Picula and film critic Marko Stojiljković.
I’m Still Here, Director: Walter Salles (Brazil, France)
Rio de Janeiro, late 1970. Six years after the establishment of the military dictatorship, repression is felt everywhere. Rubens Paiva (Selton Mello) and his wife Eunice (Fernanda Torres and Fernanda Montenegro) still enjoy an idyllic family life with their five children and friends whose laughter fills their beachside home. Their peace is abruptly shattered by the arrival of the military police, who arrest Rubens — a former congressman ousted in the military coup — after which he disappears without a trace.
Eunice begins a public investigation into her husband’s disappearance, during which she is herself detained and subjected to psychological torture. Rather than breaking her, this only strengthens her resolve to devote her life to raising her children and deepening her social engagement. She resumes her interrupted studies and becomes a lawyer dedicated to the fight for human rights.
A biographical drama by Walter Salles (Central Station, The Motorcycle Diaries, Dark Water), the film is adapted from the memoir of Marcelo Rubens Paiva — the couple’s only son. It reflects the tragedy experienced by many families during Brazil’s military dictatorship, marked by forced disappearances and the regime’s refusal to acknowledge the truth. The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where it won the award for Best Screenplay; Fernanda Torres received a Golden Globe for Best Actress, and the film won the Oscar for Best International Film, also earning nominations for Best Actress and Best Picture.

OSIJEK – KINO URANIA – 2 December 2025 (“The Blue Trail”) at 18:45
The Brazilian film “The Blue Trail” will be screened at kino Urania on 2 December at 18:45. The evening includes a panel discussion on ageing, personal freedom and the role of film in cultural diplomacy. The screening is free of charge.
The Blue Trail, Director: Gabriel Mascaro (Brazil, the Netherlands)
In this visually striking dystopian drama, 77-year-old Teresa (Denise Weinberg) refuses to accept a discriminatory government decree that banishes all citizens over 75 to remote “elderly colonies”. Instead of surrendering, she escapes through the heart of the Amazon rainforest to fulfil her lifelong dream — to fly in an airplane for the first time. Her journey becomes an awakening of vitality and courage, pushing her to rethink her identity, her capacity to love and her right to freedom.
Brazilian filmmaker Gabriel Mascaro infuses the film with a mix of science fiction, fairytale sensibility and hypnotic visual style, for which The Blue Trail received the Silver Bear in Berlin and significant international acclaim.
